The growth of the business industry in Indonesia is getting faster accompanied with the high level of development of modern shopping centers, mall or other large shopping centers. The metropolitan shopping center activity resulted in high energy usage. However, high energy requirements are not balanced with sufficient energy supplies. Of all components of the building in the urban, Air Conditioner (AC) appliance has a high portion of the buildings energy consumption.

Practitioner of refrigeration, Agus Maulana delivered at the National Ministry of Education agenda, that the percentage of electrical energy consumption used in various electrical equipment in the building is as follows: 13% electric motors, lighting 17%, 11% lifts, escalators 9%, and air conditioning 50% . The increasing use of air conditioning also affects the level of consumption of electric energy in Indonesia. Efforts to control the use of electrical energy in a room can be done with savings in its use. TC-BASS (Thermal Controller-based acoustics sensor) is an innovation that can overcome the problems of high electricity energy consumption of the air conditioner components. TC-BASS can control the speed of blower on the air conditioner based on the level of intensity of the sound that is captured by the sensor. Sensors on TC-BASS can only capture the intensity of the sound of human conversations. The increasing of people that are talking in a room can give rise to the sound intensity at that location. The increasing of sound intensity level in a room, cause the TC-BASS to increase the speed AC blower, and vice versa in case of a decrease in the level of intensity of the sound, the TC-BASS will reduce the speed AC blower. TC-BASS is expected to be one of the tools of innovation in improving energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption in buildings metropolitan mainly of components of air conditioning.
